" This is a memorial site for my father. He was one week away from spending many years with us at home but God had different plans. Dad had made many special friendships and memories over the years he was away from us. I hope to capture the memories and special moments that he has shared with everyone with this memorial. Biography
David John Strawman, 65, died Sunday October 13, 2013 in Hanoi, Vietnam. David was born to Daniel and Mildred Strawman September 20, 1948 in Ravenna, Ohio. The youngest of three, David is survived by his two sisters, Barbara Grafton and Patty Mihilov. He married his high school sweet heart Karen Rising on March 17, 1967.
David graduated from Garfield High School and UTI. David started his broadcast engineer career at WVIZ, Cleveland, Ohio followed by 13 years at Harris Corporation in Quincy, Illinois. His career continued to IBB, State Department where he managed several overseas relay stations through his 25 year career. During his career with the Foreign Service he and his family lived in Greece, Philippines, Morocco, and Thailand. In 2008 he achieved Senior Foreign Service Officer from President Bush.
Dave�s passion was traveling and taking in every experience he could. Life was for living and experiencing; he made the most of every opportunity life provided. Over the last couple years he and his wife renovated an old Victorian home in Quincy, Illinois for their retirement years. His first weeks of retirement were spent traveling and experiencing South East Asia prior to returning to his family.
David was known by many of his colleagues as more than a boss but rather a mentor and friend. He had a special place in his heart for helping others achieve and grow. He has helped many individuals with improving their life and supported many individuals along their way.
David is survived by his wife Karen Strawman, Quincy, Illinois, his son Jonathan Strawman Quincy, Illinois, and his daughter Laurel Pepin Quincy Illinois. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Cody Strawman St. Louis Missouri, Sophia Pepin, and Layla Pepin Quincy, Illinois.
David was predeceased by his parents, and his grandson Daniel Strawman.
