I was so sad to hear that Davy Jones died today. Davy was my very first serious celebrity crush. I used to say I was going to marry him someday. Then later, when my son was a newborn, we would watch The Monkees re-runs together during our 4:00 AM feedings. Yes, we go way back, Davy and I. Then one day about a year ago, he made a special appearance in my home town which is the same small town his wife is from, believe it or not. My husband and son ran the technical equipment for his show that night and took a picture with him and chatted with him and said he was the nicest person. He sang fan favorites, signed autographs and talked late into the night. And where was I? His biggest fan since childhood? Out of town visiting relatives in Virginia. Sigh. I missed meeting him. But, he'll always be my Davy - that cute Monkee with the adorable accent and sexy tamborine whose picture hung on my bedroom door for years and who made me feel my first stomach butterflies, paving the road for all those that followed, from Bobby Sherman to Peter Frampton to Robert Pattinson. Rest in Peace, Davy. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
